Robert James Elliott (1790 - 1849), was a Naval Captain in the English Royal Navy.

From 1822 to 1824, he commanded a vessel that toured India, China, and the Red Sea, during which, he made numerous on-the-spot sketches which were worked up by Samuel Prout, Clarkson Stanfield, and others, into finished drawings and consequently engraved.

This Lithograph is a page from a set of books based on the engravings, published by Fisher & Co, appearing from 1830 to 1834, under the title, 'Views in the East' with historical and descriptive letterpress by Emma Roberts.
