Sanbuk, a type of wooden dhow boat which is believed to have originated in India during 600AD to 600BC ruled the high seas all over the world. From the famed spices to pearls, Sanbuk played a pivotal role in shaping the economy of the world in the ancient and medieval times.

Beypore in North Kerala has a history spanning over 2000 years, of building quality wooden dhows which have conducted trade to Egypt, Mesopotamia and other hotspots. There are legends of rich foreign merchants commissioning 30 boats at a time because of their trust in the craftsmen of the region.

Mr Naushad comes from a family of such esteemed craftsmen, known as Khalasi's. As time passed and new technologies replaced the wooden dhows, He started building fine scale models of the same boats, using the same techniques and proportions passed on from his predecessors.
