Long unkempt dreadlocks, sharp flanged maces, katar, Trishul and a severed demon head held by horns with a dog ready to lick off the dripping blood. This fearsome vibrant image is of a Tribal folk retelling of a Tantric Diety, The destroyer of Fear, Lord Bhairava. Here the Lord is shown in two forms, Gora (fair) Bhairav & Kala (dark) Bhairav, expressing the universal polarity the deity encompasses.

These unique plaques are made in Terracotta by the Kumhar community of a beautiful village in Rajasthan called Molela. They believe their community was ordained by Lord Vishnu to craft these images for the benefit of the people. Tribals from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh gather in this quaint village in one particular part of the year to select their Deity and take them home, where they are placed in open sacred groves and worshipped as the protecters of the village and its people.
